About Zubayeer Alf E Swani
Born on 2 December 1973 in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Zubayeer began his musical training under Gobinda Robi Das and continued with Ustad Mazhar Ali Khan and Ustad Jawad Ali Khan of the Kasur Patiala school of music, where he specialized in Ghazal and Thumri singing. He pursued formal composition studies at the Gotland School of Music Composition and the Royal College of Music, Stockholm, Sweden, earning both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music.
During his studies, he trained with Henrik Strindberg, Sven-David Sandström, Mattias Svensson,Pär Lindgren, Lars Ekström, Lars-Erik Rosell, Örjan Sandred, and Bill Brunson, and attended masterclasses with Terry Riley, Gavin Bryars, Jon Appleton, and Phil Woods.
In 2002, Zubayeer received scholarships from the Inge & Einar Rosenborg Foundation for Swedish Music and Gehrmans Musikförlag to further his studies in composition.
Zubayeer’s compositions blend North Indian classical music with contemporary Western classical approaches, reflecting a commitment to connecting cultures and engaging diverse
audiences.
